Though if you dont want to go through the trouble you could try Registry Mechanic which may fix the issue if you uninstall Gmax and open office (or whatever office you have installed)

Nova, I would suggest a new OS install myself... When problems start ariseing with installing/reinstalling/uninstalling programs, its usally a registery issue or a corrupted OS.

my only other choice would be to completely strip this hdd back to nothing, reformatting it in the process, reinstalling vista & everything else I've got installed..... even then I bet gmax will still want openoffice... got me buggered as to why it wants openoffice...

Well, it looks like I wont ever be using gmax..... as far as I can tell, I've cleaned my registery of all traces of openoffice & yet gmax still insists on needing openoffice.... completely fresh download of gmax straight from turbosquids website (pressed the green "download" button).....

It's possible, but I don't see how as I d/l a trial version of jv16pt & used it to clean up my registery, after I ran it, I double checked to see if anything was left behind & remove it if it was....

I am wondering if openoffice has left something in your registry, gmax 1.2 is correct and it does download as an exe

each time I try to install gmax it goes so far then says "OPENOFFICE.ORG" along the top & then "setup was unable to find msi package" as the error message, I hope you guys/gals can make sense out of that.... (it d/l's as an .exe program & installs as an winzip self-extractor called gmax 1.2)

I clicked on the green "Download" button each & every time, it d/l's gmax properly, it's only when i go to extract/install it that it asks for openoffice 3.0 & if/when it cant find it it shuts down, otherwise if I DO happen to have oppenoffice 3.0 installed it adds stuff to the openoffice installation but NO usable gmax....

I think I'm going to have to give any plans to learn ship modelling for x3 because gmax WANTS/NEEDS openoffice, even if I install openoffice I STILL cant use gmax..... it d/l's at 18-19mb. which is the correct size for gmax....

I've got a strange suspicion anytime *I* d/l a copy it's always going to want openoffice....... just redid it & it STILL wants openoffice!!! I don't know what to do.... my 'puter MUST be screwing things up when I install it if it wants openoffice all the time..... my only choice is to try & learn blander or give up trying to create ships entirely

hiya guys, :wave: I suspect itsa quirk in my setup.... either that or they now make it so you need openoffice which is weird... ahh, just remembered something.. I remember seeing it displaying something about "python" in the openoffice section when I had it installed & was trying to install gmax.... now I know "python" is also used by blender as well, because I've seen it mentioned by blender..

when I last used Gmax I had never used open office, or even installed it, it is strange why it wants it. :S

just reconfirmed gmax DOES require openoffice!! it WILL NOT INSTALL otherwise.... just tried it again, i deleted openoffice from my hdd lastnight, so i have no program called openoffice.org 3.0 on my computer, BUT gmax tries to open up/use the openoffice.org 3.0 installer as well.....

btw OpenOffice.org 3.0 is a freeware/open source program, that does much the same as M$ office (although in my case, I had to have a proper version of M$ word for my course I'm doing....) in that it has a word processor program, an excel spreadsheet program, a draw/paint style program, that sort of thing...

Just to clrify even more... I HAD openoffice.org 3.0 installed but uninstalled it because I don't need it now that I've got M$ Office Home and Student 2007 installed (proper retail version, box & all...

)
